The top five exporting countries accounted for 85% of United States crude oil imports in December while the top ten sources accounted for approximately 96% of all U.S. crude oil imports. The top five sources of U.S. crude oil imports for December were Canada (4.1 million b/d), Mexico (553,000 b/d), Saudi Arabia (453,000 b/d), Iraq (386,000 b/d), and Colombia (293,000 b/d).

Over the past 20 years, Canada has become by far our biggest foreign supplier of oil. In fact, the U.S. presently consumes almost 70% of Canada’s oil output. According to the Energy Information Administration, in 2015 the U.S. imported 3.2 million bpd from Canada, which accounted for 43.1% of U.S. crude oil imports.
